Growing up, I had a complex about my inability to write letters that looked like me. I attended calligraphy classes, but my letters didn’t always fit within the confines of a half-sheet of paper. This was the starting point for me to receive spontaneous instruction from a teacher who recognized that this was what made me unique.
Later, I discovered the art of calligraphy and it became a part of my life. Despite winning top prizes and special awards at numerous national exhibitions, I felt uncomfortable with the direction I was taking and stayed away from factions and prize races. Currently, I am challenging myself to express calligraphy as a new art form that transcends genres while keeping the classics as its foundation.
